Why calm in motherhood changed everything for me

I started focusing on calm and emotional regulation in motherhood because I needed it myself.

There were moments in motherhood
where I felt like I was losing myself a little.

The days felt full,
but also overwhelming.

There was always something to do,
someone needing something,
something I was trying to keep up with.
And even in the middle of so much love I remember thinking, why does this feel so hard sometimes.
Motherhood can be beautiful and chaotic at the same time.

There are seasons that feel calm and connected,
and others that feel loud, busy, and overstimulating.

Where your patience feels thinner.
Your energy feels lower.
And you don’t always recognize the version of yourself that shows up in those moments.

That’s where this started for me.
Not from perfection,
but from wanting something to feel different.
I didn’t need a perfect routine.
I didn’t need to have everything under control.

I just needed a way to feel more grounded in the middle of it all.

And that’s where regulation comes in.

Not as something complicated,
but as something simple and supportive.
Learning how to pause.
How to notice what’s happening in your body.
How to respond instead of react.

Not just for us as moms,
but for our kids too.

Because they feel everything.
And they learn how to handle their emotions by watching how we handle ours.
This doesn’t mean we always stay calm.

It doesn’t mean we never lose patience.

It just means we start becoming more aware.

We come back faster.
We reconnect.
We try again.

I care about this because I’ve lived those moments.

The overwhelmed ones.
The reactive ones.
The ones where I thought, this isn’t how I want to feel.

And I’ve also felt what a difference it makes
when you have even a small way to ground yourself.

Motherhood doesn’t become perfect.

But it can feel more steady.
More intentional.
More like you again.

And that changes everything.
